It’s close to 5 years since Beneath the Surface started, and a lot has changed since those first few weeks. The vision for what Beneath the Surface has become slowly gained greater clarity over the years.

I’ve always wanted Beneath the Surface to represent the understanding that comes from shared stories, the prejudices and stereotypes slowly wash away the more deeper we’re able to delve. From the days of sitting by the ocean while being homeless as a teen, having fled domestic abuse and violence, the water has been my place of calming and contemplation.

Beneath the Surface was born during those days, I didn’t know or understand it at the time, but they were the first steps to where I am today. I feel honoured and privileged to be able to share my experiences so others can see what’s Beneath the Surface.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the time to look back at the work I’ve done in the last 5 years, and it’s easy to see how much Beneath the Surface has evolved over time. That’s precisely why we’ve rebranded, slightly changed our name, and created out new logo. It better represents who I am, and what Beneath the Surface represents at this point in time, and where we plan to go in the future.
